What is the purpose of therapy?

The purpose of therapy is to have a safe place to talk through issues & difficulties you are having in a safe and non-judgmental space. Therapy can help you to understand yourself better, break negative patterns of behaviour and reflect on your thinking and emotional states. It's important that therapy feels like an individual choice and commitment. The work can only be done if you truly want to do it. And it will be worth it.

How will I know if you are the right therapist for me?

It is important to feel comfortable and safe with your therapist and an initial free 30 minute online meeting will help to establish this. During this time we will discuss your needs and what you may wish to gain from counselling. You can then decide if you feel comfortable with me. Should your needs go beyond what I feel I am able to offer at that time, I would do my very best to recommend you to someone who is more suitable.

How do I book an appointment?

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on what your needs are.

I usually recommend 8 sessions in order to make significant therapeutic change. Some people find that after the 8 sessions they have enough clarity and focus and are ready to end the work. Other people value the ongoing support and will continue the work for months, or even years. We will review your therapy on a regular basis and you decide if you want to stop after 8 sessions or continue open-ended.

How often are the sessions?

Sessions are weekly and last for 50 minutes. By mutual agreement, we will arrange a set day and time which then becomes your 'personal time' for therapy. You will have a slot that is only yours: same day, same time, every week. We will negotiate changes to this around holidays in advance.

What will it cost?

The initial 30 minute consultation session is free. After that, all ongoing sessions cost £45.

I offer discounted sessions to Counselling students, NHS workers, military families, teaching staff, and new parents (child younger than 3). The discounted sessions cost £35.

Question 7

How do I pay?

You will be sent a payment link prior to the session.  Full payment is required 48hrs before the session begins. If payment is not received 48hrs prior, the session will not go ahead but the payment will still be outstanding.

What about cancellations and re-scheduling?

I take your welfare seriously and make a commitment to your booking. I am always willing to be flexible and reschedule where necessary, so I ask for advanced notice of any changes. Less than 48 hours notice to cancel an appointment will result in the full fee payable.

How will our sessions take place?

Our sessions will take place online through Google Meet. I will send you an invitation link by email beforehand. Please make sure you are in a room with reliable internet connection and privacy.
